Come and join us in the Christmas pageant!

Come and join us in the Christmas pageant!
Santa normally shows off his ride, but otherwise photos from the pageant demonstrating diversity in transport options were hard to find!

We are looking for people to join us in our Streets People Love Hobart Christmas pageant float!

If you are chosen you will get to stroll or roll down the middle of the street in the Hobart CBD and bring joy to onlookers. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning!

Now for the details:

For our float we would love to have a vibrant and diverse pageant entry with a variety of people (ages, stages, identities and backgrounds) and micro-mobility options represented.

As a participant you would need to:

  • get creative and decorate your bike/trike/scooter/wheelchair/self etc (no santa costumes, tinsel or plastic-shedding decorations please)
  • attend a pre-pageant briefing (likely to be online)
  • come along on the day ~9.30-12 on Saturday the 22nd of November
  • supervise any children that are joining you in the parade.

We are hoping to arrange t-shirts for all the participants as a thank you and to tie the float together (Perci platypus and the colour blue!).

We have quite a few spots to fill, if you are interested then please fill out this form! If interest is more than we have capacity, we will select for diversity to show off the different people and different ways we move.

As you will see in the form we are also looking for keen folk to volunteer to help out behind the scenes to:

  1. Give out stickers on the day
  2. Create a great costume or decoration
  3. Carry or attach one of our full-size SPLH flags on a pole
  4. Inspiration leader. Someone who will get started decorating early and post photos to a chat group to inspire others.
  5. Second-in-Charge. Just help Michael (official responsible person) with whatever he needs. You must be comfortable with directing other people with the authority you will be given.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions,

Merry September from the SPLH crew.
